I'm in gadget geek heaven. I got a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 'smartphone' for Christmas and this thing is sweet. I've been emitting a steady stream of oohs and ahs ever
since I tore off the wrapping paper. I took the photo to the right with it a short while ago. The lighting is not that great in here and the Pearl compensates nicely. Not only that, but I haven't fired my laptop computer up in three or four days. I haven't had to! This thing is more like a small computer than a phone. And yet it doesn't suffer from the Jack-of-all-features syndrome that a lot of devices fall victim to. It all actually works and it's fairly intuitive, as well.
If you're using an older model BlackBerry and wondering whether it's worth the upgrade, take my word for it: It most definitely is. I've been using a 7100 and loved it, but the Pearl makes it look like an early model TI calculator.

Does anyone know why the backlight on the Blackberry Pearl 8100 doesn't light up when someone calls or you get a message unless you push the track ball? Is there a way you can get it to come on automatically when it rings?
