Overheard at Tiny's Coffee on SE 12th in Portland:
Customer: Is Tiny's a chain?
Barista: There are two locations in Portland.
Customer: Well I'm from Atlanta, Georgia -- as you can tell by the accent -- and we have the Starbucks and Caribou, but nothing like Tiny's. This is so neat!
Barista: Well welcome to Tiny's!
[Editor: Note to self: Never, ever go to Atlanta, Georgia. If forced at gunpoint to go, insist on being allowed to pack a french press. And a pound of Hairbender blend.]
Tiny's makes every day in Portland a little better, doesn't it?

Did they really say "we have the Starbucks"? Because nothing makes me happier than when people attach a superflous "the" to something.

The the was definitely there, Dave, and I relished it in all its superfluous, folksy glory. :-)

Portland rules. Because of Tiny's and the thousand other awesome independent businesses.
Maybe preaching to the choir, but keep spending money at your local shops people. They are wonderful.
Oh, and Atlanta does suck. I hate going there. But it is funny the looks you get when you try to recycle something. :) Or ask for "walking" directions somewhere. :)

There are so many good reasons to just not go to Atlanta. I particularly enjoyed the fact that you have to walk past giant human-sized red ants to exit the airport. And they call it art! http://www.flickr.com/photos/vj_pdx/94520661/

Tiny's on SE 12th is undergoing renovation this week for at least a few days (1/29). Those of us who depend on Tiny's to keep us going are grieving...but much looking forward to a new & improved Tiny's soon!
