Referring to South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint:
The conservative senator, speaking to a group of GOP officials gathered in Myrtle Beach at a conference on the future of the Republican Party, described how the party had strayed from its own "brand," which, according to DeMint, should represent freedom, religious-based values and limited government.
First of all, those brand values are mutually exclusive. Unless the limited government is granting people the freedom to live within the government-enforced, religious-based values.
I'm sure the tens of thousands of recently married couples in California would love for the government to take a more limited role in their personal lives, rather than foisting their religious-based values on them to take away their freedom.
If the GOP wants to return to true conservatism, they should jettison the religious radicals who have hijacked the party and get back to limited government and fiscal conservatism. Their hypocritical holy wars are only going to run the party out of office and into the ground.

You are so correct.
Basically fro years since 1980 when Reagan built that coaltion when he took the dienfranchise evagelical christian right away from the dems. the christian right was still sore about the dems passing the civil rights act of 1964, so they were looking for a home for years.
Reagan brought them in by waving the flag and raising the bible.
What they joined with was such an opposite it was not even funny-the country club rich wall st type republicans.
When you think about it-the Country club set did not give a damn about the evangelicals-see the country club set wants government out of their bedrooms and out of their churches, the evagelicals want to know everyone'es business. they want to control how often people have sex, when they can have sex, what type of sex etc, not to mention abortions, and other things. and also the counrty club set was using the evangelicals for votes while it was the wall st set who turned around and scrwed 1/2 of their own party. The evangelialcs were being used for 3 years for their votes. the true fiscal republicans-the country club set couldn't give a damn about the evangelicals,
Now you are seeing that split and I am not sure if the GOp as we knew it will ever be the same.
When you look at the electoral map now-all you are left with is bible bumping rednecks. That is the GOP's vision of america???? wow!!!! You will never beat the other world economies with just rednecks. the gOp is indeed out of touch with the rest of america- the more ductaed more intelligent blue states.
